Body Signal Activities to Build Emotional Awareness

by Jessica Ragnio, MSW, LICSW, and Associate Clinical Director at Mightier

Have you ever thought about how anger feels in your cheeks, or how anxiety feels in your stomach? The Inner Space Exploration Badge is all about understanding body signals – the internal cues that tell us how we feel. We’ll play around with different exercises, learn how to tune-in to different body parts, and practice identifying how different emotions feel in our bodies. As a family, work together to explore and complete the different activities in this skill pack. You might be surprised how many different ways there are to feel an emotion.

The ability to notice these emotional body cues and interpret them is called interoception, and is a key and foundational skill in building emotional awareness. Help your child explore how different emotions feel in the body with this Body Signals drawing activity.

Complete this story, “Mission: Fill In The BL_NK” with your child to let them play around with how their body might feel during things gone wrong at a birthday party.
