Helping Kids to Understand Their Triggers
We all have things that make us feel upset or uncomfortable. For kids, this may be harder to identify. Use this list of situations to help you and your child understand how they feel.
Have them rate each of the items how it makes their own body and mind feel from, “quite cool and low energy” (1) to “very hot and high energy” (5). Use this tool to help you and your child understand situations that might be more difficult than others in order to help them develop and understand skills to help them feel confident in all situations.
Note from Mightier Clinicians
A key part of overcoming tantrums and outbursts is building emotional regulation: the capacity to take on difficult challenges with grace. The more kids practice these skills, the more they are able to transfer them to real life situations.
