Deep Touch Pressure as a Regulation Strategy
A high five. A pat on the back. A shoulder squeeze. A hug. It’s amazing how touch can have such a powerful effect on how we feel. What if your child could use touch to calm him or herself down when they felt frustrated or upset?
Try these deep touch pressure activities with your child and ask them how they feel afterwards. With continued practice, these can be skills that your child uses to regulate themselves at school, at home, or wherever they are feeling strong emotions.
